Appalachian State University men’s tennis could only find the scoreboard in the final singles match of the afternoon, as the Mountaineers fell 6-1 to No. 73 ETSU Saturday afternoon at the Deer Valley Racquet Club. Freshman Jan-Willem

Kleynhans picked up his first career victory as a Mountaineer, defeating Ricardo Pabon 6-2, 7-6 at No. 6 singles, but it came after ETSU clinched the victory and moved to 3-2 on the young season.
The Mountaineers fought hard throughout the day, highlighted by a heartbreaking three-set loss by Steve Karendal at No. 3 singles.  With the loss, Karendal moves to 1-3 on the season in singles play.
“ETSU is a good team and it’s the last ranked team we have on the schedule as of now,” head coach Bob Lake said. “But tomorrow we got to get a win and get this started.”
App State quickly returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 3 as the Apps host Tennessee Tech at the Deer Valley Racquet Club. Action is set to begin at noon.
