 The Watuaga High boys and girls swimming teams will be well represented at the Class 4A Western championships today in Huntersville. The WHS girls, who finished three points behind St. Stephens in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference
championships Wednesday in Hickory, will have three relay teams and four individuals competing on Saturday. Leading the way will be the 200 medley relay team (Doria Kosmala, Carson Middlebrook, Anne Taylor, and Darby Middlebrook), which won a conference championship and also set a new conference record in the process by finishing the race in 2:01.01. WHS will also be represented in the 200 freesyle and 400 freestyle relays Darby Middlebrook, who captured a conference championship in the 200 freestyle, will compete in the 500 freestyle on Saturday; Anne Taylor, who won two events at the conference championships (the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle) will compete in the 100 freestyle; Carson Middlebrook and Juliana Silver will both represent the Pioneers in the 100 breaststroke. For the boys, WHS will have three relay teams and two individuals in the field. Leading the way for the WHS boys will be the 400 freestyle relay team, which captured the conference title by besting St. Stephens in the final event of the night on Wednesday that gave the Pioneers their NW3A/4A title. WHS will also compete in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. Individually, Forrest Brown will compete in the 100 freestyle; Marcus Funston competes in the 100 butterfly. Warm-ups begin at 3:30 p.m. The meet begins at 4:30 p.m.
