A Wilkesboro bank was robbed late afternoon yesterday, but the suspect barely made it home before being taken into custody. The Yadkin Valley Bank at 301 West Main Street was robbed just before 4pm by a black male who entered and presented a note to a teller, demanding money. The man left, and witnesses outside reported that the man got on a scooter on the lot and left toward the DSS building.  Police found other witnesses on the path that directed them to the man, still in his front yard near the scooter, wearing the clothing seen in the surveillance video at the bank. 48-year old James Edward Porter was arrested in the yard of his 511 Highland Street apartment, the 23 $100 bills were recovered from his person, and he was charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and jailed under $75,000 bond.
