 The Watauga High wrestling team finally cracked the win column in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference by blasting Hickory 65-15 Tuesday night at Lentz-Eggers Gym. The Pioneers (1-4 in the
NW3A/4A Conference) picked up six forfeit wins against the Red Tornadoes. Mark Townsend (35-8 record), who won by forfeit at 113 pounds, also picked up his 35th win of the year. Gus Coffey (37-6) won by technical fall at 120 pounds, and Demetre Kostis (42-0) won by forfeit at 132 pounds. Cole Sherrill at 138, Jake Page at 160 and Jeremy Critcher at 195 all won by pinfall. The Pioneers travel to Alexander Central for their final dual match of the regular season next Tuesday, February 5. The Northwestern 3A/4A Conference tournament will be held next Saturday, February 9.
