The University of North Carolina – Asheville women's tennis team swept both doubles and singles play en route to a 7-0 victory over visiting Lees-McRae College on Saturday afternoon in the Bobcats' season opener. The Bobcats (0-1) fought
hard in each match, forcing UNCA (1-0) to earn every point. UNCA's duo of Zoe Hamel and Ericka Rivero opened the afternoon with an 8-2 win over Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.), before Christine Boissevain and Emily McNall defeated Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) and Stevie Harrell (Morganton, N.C.), 8-0.
Gillian Lewis and Amryn Solider followed with an 8-0 win against LeeAnn Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.) and Emily Jones (Leonardtown, Md.) clinch the doubles point for the Bulldogs. Hamel pushed the lead to 2-0 at No. 1 singles, defeating Wohlers, 6-1, 6-3, as McNall registered a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the second matchup against Lutz.
Boissevain gave UNCA a 4-0 advantage at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bost, before Rivero bested Harrell, 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth slot. Solider and Lewis would each register 6-0, 6-0 victories against Sullivan and Jones to finish out the afternoon.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Sunday, February 10 when the Bobcats host Tusculum College in their home opener at 12 p.m.
