The Boone Fire Department has released the name of the woman killed earlier this week in an early morning fire. June Kathleen Hicks, 59, died in her 131 Rocky Lane mobile home, found burning when explosions woke neighbors at about 3:40 Wednesday morning. Boone Fire officials
blamed the fatal fire on flammable materials being too close to a heat source, saying that Hicks had a number of heaters in use in her trailer at the time of the fire. Ronnie Marsh reiterated the need for everyone to be sure any flammable item is at least 3 feet from any heat source, and to check that smoke detectors are working. He said that damage was so severe that Boone Fire investigators were unable to determine whether there were working smoke detectors in the trailer. |
