Fatal Fire Afternoon Update: Little New PDF Print
Written by Steve Frank

The latest on this morning’s fatal fire is a waiting game—waiting for an autopsy, a fire investigation, literally frozen in the cold. Boone Chief Jimmy Isaacs confirmed the fatality in the 3:40am fire, but he said this afternoon that few other details have been officially determined as the matter is still under investigation, and the autopsy results not yet finalized. The fire call came in to an address on Rainbow Trail near Rocky Lane, explosions, probably from tires exploding on a car that was also burning, waking those living near the mobile home. Arriving firemen found the mobile home and an adjacent structure fully involved in flames, and with other homes very close to the mobile home, firemen worked to contain the fire to the two already burning structures, and discovered the deceased as they were finally able to start their search of the rubble.  Initial calls on the fire indicated that someone might be in the mobile home, and now that has been confirmed, with family, neighbors, and friends revealing the name of the woman who lived there, but without official word, we’re leaving it at that.  Cove Creek manned Boone Station 1 while Meat Camp, and Deep Gap went to the scene. Watauga Medics and Watauga Rescue stood by in case of other injuries and exposure to the 10-degree cold.
