Boone Fire has confirmed one fatality in an early morning blaze battled by Boone Fire and backup fire companies. Boone Chief Jimmy Isaacs confirmed the fatality in the 3:40am call, but few other details have come as the matter is still under investigation. The call came in to an address on Rainbow Trail
near Rocky Lane, and arriving firemen finding the mobile home and an adjacent structure fully involved in flames. With other homes very close to the mobile home, firemen worked to contain the fire to the two already burning structures, and discovered the deceased as they mopped up. Initial calls indicated that someone might be in the mobile home, and now that has been confirmed. Cove Creek manned Boone Station 1 while Meat Camp, and Deep Gap went to the scene. Watauga Medics and Watauga Rescue stood by in case of injuries and exposure to the extreme cold.
