![]() Appalachian State’s Maryah Sydnor has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games through January 14, the league office announced today. Sydnor led all players in scoring for last week’s games. She had 23 points in App’s first double-overtime game since 2003, along with 14 rebounds, four steals, and three blocked shots. She was a clutch player in the victory for the Mountaineers, with eight points in overtime and a perfect 4-4 from the line. The sophomore from Radford, Va., recorded a double-double in the game, her first of the season. Sydnor was also perfect at the line, going 10-for-10 last week. Other top performers last week were Davidson’s Sophia Aleksandravicius, Elon’s Kelsey Harris, Furman’s Teshia Griswold, Samford’s Taylor Reece, Chattanooga’s Ashlen Dewart and Wofford’s Daniella Motley. Sydnor is the third ASU player to win the award. Anna Freeman (November 20) and Courtney Freeman (December 4) of the Mountaineers have also earned Player of the Week honors.
