Following a sincere recommendation from Watauga High School’s principal, Marshall Gasperson, and review of its new high school facility “naming” policy the Board of Education voted unanimously during Monday evening’s meeting to name the high school lacrosse field in honor and memory
of Leigh Wallace, beloved teacher and coach, who recently passed away. There was some question about whether, under the new policy, a fee would have to be assessed for the naming right. After reviewing the policy it was determined that the Board could name a facility based on a person’s dedication and commitment to a school and its students without accessing a fee. Everyone agreed that Leigh Wallace exemplified these things and with that school Board member, Ron Henries, made the motion that was unanimously approved.
