The Watauga High wrestling team had mixed results on Saturday at the Eagles Classic at Wilkes Central in Moravian Falls, N.C. The Pioneers lost four dual matches, but they also had three wrestlers in the
field that went undefeated. Mark Townsend at 113 pounds, Gus Coffey at 120, and Demetrius Kostis at 132 were all 4-0 against the field. Jackson Lawley was 3-1 at 220.
Mark and Gus are both wrestling really well right now," said WHS coach Todd Allan. "They both beat a bunch of good kids."
Coffey also reached a milestone, according to Allan. Coffey, a four-year varsity wrestler, notched his 100th career win in December. Kostis picked up his 100th career win in a tri-match at Black Mountain-Owen last Thursday.
The Pioneers take on South Caldwell in their Northwestern 3A/4A Conference opener Tuesday night at Lentz-Eggers Gym at 6 p.m.
