Just as all power has been restored to BREMCO customers, Mountain Electric areas, and for New River Light and Power’s Boone customers, there’s another round of wintry weather on the horizon for tonight and into Saturday.  Crews restored downed power lines while the DOT and fire departments across the High Country cleared downed trees that blocked roads as winds finally subsided yesterday.  But the next round of weather is more icy, with the National Weather Service saying that today’s short break in the weather will be followed by sleet and snow tonight, with the possibility of freezing rain after midnight.  The forecast calls for a trace of ice, but it could be just the right combination, added to the inch or so of snow and sleet to make for treacherous travel tomorrow morning. The combination is predicted to turn to all rain by Saturday afternoon as temperatures reach 40.  The wind element missing from the weather warning still calls for 15 to 20 mile per hour winds with gusts to 35.  The system turns back to snow for Saturday night, as temps drop into the lower 20’s, and with that, wind gusts to 45 will drop wind chill values to about 7 degrees.  The last day of 2012 should be rather quiet weather wise, but New Year’s Day might see more snow just as revelers are returning home.
