Alleghany Community Television has added to its website a new streaming service for content broadcast by the station. The new streaming pages went online November 21, 2012 and feature links to programs including meetings of the Alleghany County Commissioners, the Sparta Town Council and the Al-leghany School Board, along with most of the programming currently airing on ACTV. ACTV has added a new web address,, which will take visitors directly to the program listing page on the site. The address was chosen to be shorter- and easier to remember- than the main address.
The streaming service will be free to anyone with internet access and will include links and information on individual shows, content producers and station sponsors.
The station was previously, only available to subscribers of affiliates, Alleghany Cablevision, Skybest TV, Wilkes Telecommu-nications and Surry TV, serving an area from around Lewisville, North Carolina, to Johnson City Tennessee and including 6,276 subscribers as of this release.
Station Manager Charlie Scott – “The streaming ability we’ve gained with our latest equipment upgrade will make our little sta-tion available to anyone in the world who has access to the internet. “Alleghany Community Television is a community access station serving the mountain region of northwest North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. ACTV was originally developed by the Alleghany County, North Carolina School System and has evolved into a stand-alone 501(c)(3) organization. “We are unique, in that students from Alleghany High School help to run the station. The kids learn and perform tasks including videography, video editing, production, sound, lighting and almost every job associated with the operation of a modern media center.”
