Man Critically Hurt in Watauga Wreck PDF Print

A Watauga County man was listed in critical condition yesterday at the Johnson City Medical Center after a single-vehicle crash Saturday night on NC 194 North near Castle Ford Road.  The 7:40pm crash caused 66-year old Lowell Miller a serious neck injury that was bleeding heavily when called in by those first on the scene, as well as leg injuries.  Watauga Rescue joined Meat Camp Fire/First Responders and Watauga Medics at the scene as Miller was trapped inside for about an hour while WINGS Air Rescue was dispatched to a landing zone set up at Hardin Park School by Boone Fire. The chopper had to wait on the ground for the crews at the wreck site to free Miller, but the George Moretz Lane man was finally lifted away and rushed to the Tennessee hospital.  Trooper Goldsmith said Lowell Miller was in critical condition upon arrival, and remained so when he talked with hospital officials yesterday.  He said Miller was alone in the 2012 Honda SUV, and that he ran off of the road to the right, struck a tree, and the vehicle landed back out in the road on its side, but what might have led to the accident was still under investigation.
