 The high school basketball season is not even a month old, but the Alexander Central High women's basketball team is matching Hickory step-for-step. Both teams remained undefeated Friday night. The Cougars (6-0) blasted Davie County 71-55 in Mocksville. Madi Suddreth led the way with a career-high 39 points.
Hickory (4-0) remained unblemished by blowing out Newton-Conover 88-53. The game was tied at 35 at halftime. Danasia Witherspoon paced Hickory with 35 points. In men's basketball, St. Stephens and Fred T. Foard both remained undfeated. The Tigers (5-0) blasted West Lincoln 70-49. Ketty Cameron led four players in double figures with 15 points. The Indians (5-0) won their fifth game in a row by knocking off Bunker Hill, 68-50. Jlen Wilson had 16 points to pace St. Stephens.
