The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (6-1) continued its best start in five seasons with an 87-69 victory over Lees-McRae (0-8) Thursday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium. L-R junior forward

Matt Kunz (Kernersville, N.C.) led the way with a career-high 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds while junior forward Allan Jones (Clemmons, N.C.) added 16 points off the bench in the victory.
Asad Lamot (Mebane, N.C.) finished with a team-high 14 points for Lees-McRae, who continues to search for its victory on the season. Lenoir-Rhyne built a 41-27 lead and pushed the margin to 17 points on a lay-up by freshman forward Rob Noyes (Morganton, N.C.) for a 63-46 advantage with 11:05 left in the contest. Noyes finished with 11 points for the Bears on the night.
However, Lees-McRae cut the lead to 69-61 at the 7:40 mark in the second half but couldn't get any closer. The Bears then responded with a 14-1 run over the next five-plus minutes to turn the contest in a rout.
Junior guard R.J. McClure (Canton, N.C.) added 12 points for the Bears, who held a 43-26 advantage in rebounding and limited the Bobcats to just 28 percent shooting (eight-of-29) from behind the three-point line. Daniel Sepokas (Illawong, AUSTRALIA) and Charles Clarke (Orlando, Fla.) added 10 points each for the Bobcats despite the loss in the first meeting between the two schools in 21 years.
Lenoir-Rhyne plays UNC Asheville on Wednesday in an exhibition in Asheville, N.C., beginning at 7:00 p.m. L-R then faces Barber-Scotia at home on Saturday, December 15, at 4:00 p.m. Lees-McRae, meanwhile, returns home to take on Brevard on Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
