The Watauga High wrestling team finished 14th on Saturday at the Falcon Frenzy Tournament at West Henderson High in Hendersonville, N.C. And the Pioneers also had two place finishers

in the field. Demetreus Kostis won the title at 132 pounds. The WHS junior went 4-0 with three pinfalls. He defeated Cody Hall of East Rutherford 8-4 in the finals.
"Demetreus was just an animal," WHS coach Todd Allan said. "He just marched his way to the title. I was real impressed with his performance this weekend. What can I say, he's just a gifted wrestler."
Kostis, who is 10-0 this season, won his first three matches by pinfall. Following a first-round by, Kostis pinned Aaron Owensby of East Henderson in 3:33; he followed that up by pinning Michael Harer of Dobbynsville-Bennett, Tn., in 1:42 in the quarterfinals; and he pinned Bryan Ramero of Erwin in 3:06 in the semifinals.
Mark Townsends was WHS' other place finisher as he finished fourth. Townsend was 4-2 during the weekend. Townsend, who received a first-round bye, pinned Clint McCall of Rosman in his opening match in 2:45. But Townsend lost to Nick Crawford of Heritage High TN., by pinfall in 3:44.
Townsend defeated Johnny Campos of McDowell 11-5, Clifford Braly of North Henderson 7-5 in the consolation round before he lost to Crawford in a rematch 5-0 in the third-place match.
The biggest surprise of the weekend concerned Gus Coffey, who placed at this tournament last year, but went 2-2 this season and did not place at 126 pounds. Coffey was eliminated by Kade Guffey 13-3 in the consolation quarterfinals.
Cole Sherrill went 0-2 at 138; Gabriel Irwin went 2-2 at 152; Jake Page at 160 and Jeremy Critcher at 195 were both 2-2; Jackson Lawley at 220 and Stewart Beach at 285 were both 0-2.
The Pioneers travel to Avery for a dual match Thursday.
