It was a tough night for the Watauga High wrestling team. The Pioneers, who put together a respectable showing in their first meet of the season at the Old

Appalachian Open on November 21, struggled Wednesday night in a tri-match at West Caldwell. The Pioneers were victimized twice. They lost to Freedom 56-22 and they dropped a 43-33 decision against West Caldwell. But despite the double-dip loss, the Pioneers did have something to smile about thanks to Mark Townsend, Gus Coffey, and Demetreus Kostis.
Townssend was 2-0 with a forfeit win and a pinfall at 113 pounds; Coffey was 2-0 with a pinfall at 126; and Kostis was 2-0 with a pinfall and a major decision. Gab Irwin at 152, Jeremy Critcher at 195 and Jackson Lawly at 220 were each 1-1 with a pinfall.
The Pioneers travel to West Henderson for the Falcon Frenzy Friday and Saturday.
