The Caldwell County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a house fire that heavily damaged a 100-year old house yesterday afternoon. The fire was called in just before 5 p.m. Monday at the vacant Baton School Road structure,  Robbie Wilkie, Caldwell County Fire Marshal/Emergency Management Coordinator saying the fire appeared to have started in a front, right room that had been used as a bedroom in the two-story, wood frame house. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The house was listed as a rental house owned by Dennis Robinson of Canton, N.C. Wilkie says that Robinson told him that he had been working at the house and left for awhile, came back to find the house on fire and people on the scene who had called in the fire. Wilkie said there was fire damage over the entire second floor and most of the first floor with smoke and water damage in the rest. North Catawba Fire Department, Sawmills, Hudson, and Gamewell Fire Departments all responded to the call.
