Jake Chasteen has been named to the North Carolina Coaches Association Class 4A All-StateTeam. Chasteen backboned WHS to ten shutouts this season, including a pair of shutouts in the state playoffs. Chasteen had a 0.05 goals-against-average in post-season play as the
Pioneers (18-4-3) marched their way to the Class 4A Western Regionals for the first time since 1999. They were eliminated by Asheville-Roberson 1-0 at Jack Groce Stadium on November 10. Chasteen is also the 18th WHS player to earn all-state honors and the school's first all-state player since Ben Robertson in 2008. Goalkeeper Adam Laney is the only two-time all-state selection in school history. Laney earned all-state honors in 1995 and 1996; former coach Doug Kidd was named Class 4A All-State Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1999.
Chasteen is also the third junior to be named all-state. Laney (1995) and Andy Cooke (1999) are the others. |
