The Winthrop Men's Basketball Team (2-2) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne, 59-35, Tuesday evening at the Winthrop Coliseum. The game counts as an exhibition for the Bears.  The Eagles' Gideon

Gamble (Atlanta, Ga.) led all scorers with 12 points while Derrick Henry (Covington, Ga.) added 11 points to lead Winthrop to the victory.
L-R was led by senior forward B.J. Beasley (Charlotte, N.C.) with nine points and eight rebounds while junior guard R.J. McClure (Canton, N.C.) added eight points in the losing effort. Lenoir-Rhyne battled Winthrop to a 17-17 tie entering the break but the Eagles took control from there.
Winthrop opened the second half on a 15-4 run capped off by a pair of free throws from Shola Diop (Sydney, AUSTRALIA) with 12:26 left and never looked back.
The Eagles limited the Bears to just 27 percent shooting (14-of-52) for the game and forced Lenoir-Rhyne into 16 turnovers in the contest. Winthrop outscored Lenoir-Rhyne, 42-18, after halftime and shot 56 percent (14-of-25) in the second half.
Lenoir-Rhyne (4-0) returns to action on Wednesday, November 28, against Anderson in the South Atlantic Conference opener in Anderson, S.C., at 7:00 p.m.
Winthrop, meanwhile, also plays next Wednesday when the Eagles travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to face Wofford. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
