Blowing Rock Police made two arrests after a Friday night drug interdiction operation, resulting in a narcotic seizure along with the two arrests. Police say that, while participating in the operation at approximately 12:33am Saturday morning, Chief Brown stopped silver Toyota Tundra for an expired license plate. Upon approach of the vehicle officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana, leading to a search of the vehicle by Chief Brown, Lt. Mahaffy, and Officer Dan White. Discovered were 4 pints of pharmaceutical grade codeine used in cough syrup, the codeine seized an opium based product that is only found in a pharmacy setting. The codeine is believed to have stolen from a pharmacy out of state. In addition to the Codeine several doses of Klonopin, cash and the Toyota Tundra were seized.  The driver of the vehicle Dylan Kurt Crum, 21, of Boone and the passenger Mathew Allen Meadlock, age 21, of Boone were each charged with 2 counts of trafficking opium, 1 count of possession with intent to sale and deliver narcotics and 1 count of possession of schedule IV narcotic (Klonopin) without a prescription. Both men jailed Saturday at the Watauga County Detention Center under a $75,000 bond. Information gathered during the arrest also lead Watuaga County Sheriff’s Deputies to a residence on Old Bristol Road in Boone where a small quantity of marijuana and several thousand dollars in cash were seized.
