Going on a good amount faith, the Watauga Commissioner last night approved the sale of the old Watauga High site to Templeton properties. It’s official, but still subject to final approval by the county attorney of the contract. In the unanimous vote during Tuesday evening’s meeting,

the Watauga Commissioners approved the sale of the property to which will net the county 18 million 600 dollars. With no upset bids on the table and not wanting to start the process over, Commissioners approved the offer with very little discussion about what is planned for the old high school site. Quoting selected portions from Phil Templeton’s letter about the project, “Before the purchaser of the 74 acre high school property can say with certainty what the end development plan for the property will be, a great deal of time, effort and money has to be spent performing the customary due diligence.” And that, “the plan for the property includes both commercial uses and student housing units.”  With those few facts, Commission Chairman, Nathan Miller put forward the only comment, expressing his hope, "the only thing I have to say, I hope this goes through, I hope we're able to work with Mr. Templeton or Templeton Properties and the Town of Boone in getting this done for the citizens of the county and the town."
