![]() Watauga High baseball coach Pete Hardee has announced that senior Ryder Jones of the Pioneers will officially sign his National Letter of Intent with Stanford University Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the WHS Media Center. Jones, who is the older son of Appalachian State University baseball coach Billy Jones, verbally committed to Stanford in July and wes accepted in September. Jones, who led Stillwater (OK) High to its first state playoff appearance in six years last spring, was also one of 40 players invited to the Team USA tryouts in June in Cary, N.C.
HOLLAND NAMED PITCHER OF YEAR
Greg Holland, who played at McDowell High and Western Carolina University, has been named the Pitcher of the Year by the Kansas City Royals. Holland, who completed his third season in the Major Leagues, was 7-4 with a 2.96 earned-run-average after a slow start. He also had 16 saves in 18 opportunities in the last two months of the season.
