Chattanooga forward Taylor Hall led the Lady Mocs to a season-opening victory over No.20 Tennessee and has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for all games through November 12.  The New

Tazewell, Tenn., native tied her career-high in scoring with 24 points to lead the Lady Mocs to an 80-71 win over No.20 Tennessee in the Lady Vols’ first game without legendary head coach Pat Summitt, who stepped down as coach during the offseason after 38 years at the helm of the Lady Vols. Hall also tallied nine rebounds and posted career-highs in assists (five) and steals (four) while tying her career-best in blocked shots with three while committing no turnovers. Hall was 9-of-12 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc while making 3-of-5 from the free throw line. The Lady Mocs travel to Nashville, Tenn., tomorrow to take on Belmost, before returning to Chattanooga to host East Tennessee State on Saturday. Other top performers in the opening week of play were Appalachian State’s Courtney Freeman, College of Charleston’s Latisha Harris, Davidson’s Sophia Aleksandravicius, Elon’s Kelsey Evans, Georgia Southern’s MiMi DuBose, Samford’s Kendall Schwantz, and Western Carolina’s Diamond Hunnicutt.  
The Citadel’s Mike Groselle has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played through Nov. 12, the league office announced today (Nov. 13).  Groselle averaged 19.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game last week as the Bulldogs went 1-1 at the All-Military Classic in Charleston, S.C.
The senior center scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Bulldogs’ 84-76 victory over VMI.  It was Groselle’s 23rd career double-double.  He followed that performance with 17 points and eight rebounds against Air Force as the Falcons held on for a 77-70 victory.  He shot 68 percent from the field (15-22) and was 8-for-10 from the free throw line.  He added three assists, two steals and was named to the All-Military Classic All-Tournament Team for his efforts. The Citadel (1-1) returns to action Wednesday (Nov. 14) when the Bulldogs host Montreat College. Other top performers in the Southern Conference included College of Charleston’s Andrew Lawrence, Davidson’s De’Mon Brooks, Elon’s Lucas Troutman, UNCG’s Trevis Simpson, Samford’s Tim Williams, Western Carolina’s Trey Sumler and Wofford’s Karl Cochran.
