With a chance to clinch its record-tying 12th Southern Conference championship, Appalachian State University closes the regular season versus longtime rival Furman. Kickoff is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

BLACK SATURDAY
The regular-season finale is Appalachian State's annual BLACK SATURDAY game at Kidd Brewer Stadium. All fans are encouraged to help blackout The Rock by wearing BLACK to the game.

NOTING SATURDAY'S MATCHUP
• Appalachian State (7-3, 5-2 SoCon) controls its own destiny in the Southern Conference championship race. If the Mountaineers defeat Furman (3-6, 2-4 SoCon), they win their seventh conference title in eight years.

• A victory would also give Appalachian its 12th SoCon championship, tying Furman for the most titles in the league’s 80-year championship history. Furman’s 12 SoCon championships have come in 74 years in the conference while this is only Appalachian’s 41st season in the SoCon.

• Appalachian is 11-2 all-time in games in which it has an opportunity to clinch at least a share of the Southern Conference championship. The Mountaineers have won eight-straight potential SoCon title-clinchers by an average score of 34-11.

• Appalachian climbed back into the SoCon title race last Saturday when it knocked off top-ranked Georgia Southern, 31-28, on the road in Statesboro, Ga. and Samford upset No. 6 Wofford in double overtime. Those results drew the Mountaineers even in the loss column with GSU (7-2, 6-2 SoCon), Wofford (7-2, 5-2 SoCon) and Chattanooga (5-4, 4-2 SoCon) atop the SoCon standings.

• Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, they have not played well recently when coming off big wins. The last three times that Appalachian has defeated a nationally ranked opponent, it has lost the following week.

• Ironically, the dubious streak began last year when, coming off a 24-17 win over No. 1 Georgia Southern, the Mountaineers dropped a 20-10 decision at Furman.

• Furman is the only current member of the Southern Conference that Appalachian has a losing record against all-time. The Mountaineers are just 17-22-3 in 42 all-time meetings with the Paladins.

• However, Appalachian has controlled the series as of late with wins in nine of the last 11 meetings.

• The Mountaineers have also won eight-straight over Furman at Kidd Brewer Stadium, dating back to 1998. Many members of Appalachian’s current team had not yet started elementary school the last time the Apps lost to the Paladins in Boone, a 20-14 defeat on Oct. 12, 1996.

• Appalachian had a record six-game winning streak in the series snapped with last year’s loss at Furman.

• Fans are encouraged to get to their seats early, as Appalachian State will honor its seniors prior to the game. Fifteen student-athletes will be recognized before their final regular-season contest in the Black and Gold — 12 in their final season of eligibility and three fourth-year juniors that have decided to forego their final season of eligibility and graduate this year.
