Botts Earns Second Straight SAC Defensive Honors PDF Print

Lenoir-Rhyne's Tanner Botts has been named the South Atlantic Conference Football Defensive Player Of The Week once again, league officials announced this afternoon. Botts, a sophomore linebacker from Lawrenceville, Ga., wins the honor for

the second consecutive week. Botts finished with a team-high 10 tackles to go along with two quarterback sacks and two forced fumbles in leading Lenoir-Rhyne to a 44-21 win over Newberry last Saturday in a conference game in Newberry, S.C.
Both forced fumbles by Botts led to touchdowns for Lenoir-Rhyne, who won its sixth straight game for first time in 18 seasons.
Botts remains second on the squad in tackles with 74 including a team-high 9.5 takedowns for a loss and four sacks this season. Botts also has three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries on the year.
Carson-Newman's Brandon Baker and Catawba's L.J. McCray were named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive and Special Teams Players Of The Week, respectively.
Lenoir-Rhyne (7-2, 5-1) is currently tied for first place in the South Atlantic Conference with Mars Hill and will look to clinch its second straight league title on Saturday. L-R hosts long-time rival Catawba (4-6, 2-4) beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Moretz Stadium for Senior Day.
