![]() The Southern Conference named its football players of the week today for games played Saturday, Nov. 3. Appalachian State’s Sean Price has been named the Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, while his teammate Troy Sanders was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Samford’s Cameron Yaw was tabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the conference office.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Troy Sanders, Appalachian State, Sr., DB, Chester, S.C. With Appalachian State holding a three-point lead late in the game and Georgia Southern driving inside Mountaineer territory, Troy Sanders intercepted a Jerick McKinnon pass at the ASU 21-yard line to clinch the win. Sanders also tied for the game high with 10 tackles, including six solo stops. The senior safety was credited with two tackles for loss, resulting in minus-6 yards. Other Nominees: Blake Riley (Georgia Southern), Nicholas Williams (Samford), Shane Heatherly (Chattanooga), Elijer Martinez (Western Carolina) and James Zotto (Wofford).
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cameron Yaw, Samford, Sr., PK, Trussville, Ala.Senior placekicker Cameron Yaw connected on three of his four field goal attempts and converted two extra-point attempts in Samford’s 24-17 double-overtime win over Wofford. Yaw connected from 24, 40 and 31 yards out in the first half. His 31-yard boot pulled the Bulldogs to within one point (10-9) entering halftime. The Trussville, Ala., native also kicked off four times for an average of 65.0 yards and produced three touchbacks. Other Nominees: Sam Martin (Appalachian State) Thomas Warren (The Citadel), Adam Shreiner (Elon), J.J. Wilcox (Georgia Southern), Henrique Ribeiro (Chattanooga) and Clark Sechrest (Western Carolina).
