A dark, cold night on Beech Mountain—that with the main power line from TVA down since mid-afternoon Thursday.  Mountain Electric district manager Danny Cuthberson said that the line finally gave way to the weight of ice, taking down power from as far away as Mountain City, areas of Elizabethton, and all of the Beech Mountain area.  Cuthberson said that crews were able to restore much of the area off of Beech Mountain to power by late in the day, but crews found ‘several issues’ on the Beech line and worked all night on the line to Beech under icy, windy conditions, and he said hopes are to have the power restored by mid-morning.  Meanwhile, two High Country Radio transmitters, located at the top of Beech, were off the air with the outage.
