The Avery Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed home invasion  from last weekend in which an elderly Elk Park woman was robbed.  The Sheriff’s Office is asking for information through High Country Crimestoppers, saying that on Sunday, October 28th at around 10 p.m., two men wearing gloves and ski masks forced their way into the Davis Street home of the elderly woman through an unlocked door. They were armed with a small handgun, the victim telling investigators that one man pointed the handgun at her forehead and demanded money, while the other man cut the phone line to the house inside the dwelling. The suspects left the house without harming the woman, taking an undisclosed amount of cash that the woman kept in her bedroom, according to the investigators.  Anyone with information regarding this home invasion are asked to call the High Country Crimestoppers Hotline at (828) 737-0125 or the Avery County Sheriff’s Office at (828) 733-2071. All callers can remain anonymous. Callers are eligible for a cash reward if their information leads to the arrest of suspects, recovery of stolen property or the seizure of illegal drugs. In September, High Country Crimestoppers paid out several hundred dollars to callers that provided information to investigators.
