Mountaineers Drop Final Match Against Longwood PDF Print

Appalachian State University field hockey team dropped an 8-2 decision to Longwood in its final regular season match Sunday afternoon. The Mountaineers fell behind early as the Lancers scored two

goals less than 10 minutes into the first half of play. Longwood would go on to net two more goals in the first half, taking a 4-0 lead into halftime.
The Lancers picked up right where they left off in the second half as they found the back of the net two more times just under five minutes into play. Longwood took the 7-0 lead over Appalachian when Stacey de Grandhomme notched her second goal of the match as she fired a shot from the left side of the cage off a pass from Kim Ruiter.
The Apps lone goal of the match came when they drew a corner at the 44:19 mark. Freshman Caroline Phillips fired a direct shot off a pass from Amber Boot and a stick stop from Emily Knapp,
Phillips led the way for the Mountaineers with the lone goal, while four other Apps had shots on goal. Goalkeeper Sarah Anderson suffered the loss in net as she posted seven saves on the afternoon and Cristina Ceppi posted one save in her five minutes of play.
oncludes its season with a 3-15 overall record and a 0-8 record in the NorPac, while Longwood improves to 7-12 overall on the season and 6-2 in the NorPac.
Appalachian State will hope to compete in the NorPac tournament on Thursday, Nov 1 hosted by Longwood University in Farmville, Va.
