Will hurricane Sandy become a snowstorm for the High Country? There are a number of scenarios that area being put forward as the east coast prepares for the hurricane to hit New Jersey, spreading a huge amount of moisture westward as it fizzles out. The complication is that Sandy

is heading into a strong cold front—one we’re seeing here—and with the moisture, the National Weather Service is saying we could get snow successive overnights during the first of the week starting tonight, changing to rain during the day with some local accumulation.  They have, as of this morning, issued a winter storm watch for the area. And the Weather Channel says we could be part of a band of snow from West Virginia, western Virginia, and to the High Country that could pile heavy, wet snow—some areas 4 inches to two feet.  How that for a scary Halloween?  Meanwhile, coastal areas are worried and we’re watching to see what develops.  Batteries and bread, anyone?
