Appalachian State University field hockey team fell 3-1 to Liberty University in its final home match of the 2012 season this afternoon. The Mountaineers were the first to get on the scoreboard as sophomore Dana Wetmore netted her sixth

goal of the season on a pass from Laura Malinoski at the 24:13 mark of the first half.
Liberty’s Sarah Gipe knotted the score at 1-1 when she fired a shot from the right side of the cage past keeper Sarah Anderson with just under three minutes to play in the first half.
The Flames took the 2-1 lead over the Apps when Megan Johnson found the back of the net after she deflected a shot from Natalie Barr into the top corner of the cage. Barr extended the Liberty lead to two when she found herself alone behind the keeper off a rebounded shot from a Flames’ forward.
Wetmore led Appalachian with one goal, while Malinoski recorded her first point of the season and sophomore Jordyn Warren put two shots on goal. Anderson had 10 saves on the afternoon, suffering the loss in the cage for the Mountaineers.
