Unseasonably cold weather broke the record for the daily low temperature on Easter Sunday at Grandfather Mountain.
At the official US Weather Service reporting station next to the Mile High Swinging Bridge, the temperature dipped to 9 degrees early in the morning. That broke the previous daily low record of 13 degrees set April 8, 1958. The weekend also brought a snowfall total of 9.2 inches to Grandfather. The all time lowest temperature ever recorded in April at Grandfather Mountain was 5 degrees on April 7, 1982.
