Huskies Eliminate Pioneers In Sectional Finals PDF Print

The Watauga High volleyball team wrapped up its rollercoaster season Thursday night on a down note. The Pioneers (17-12), who 6-10 after an 11-2 start, we're eliminated by Cornelius-Hough, the No.

1 seed from the I-Meck Conference, 3-0 in the Class 4A sectional finals. The Pioneers, lost 18-25, 9-25, 17-25. The Huskies advances to Class 4A Western Regional, where they will play T.C. Roberson (21-7) in the opening round on Saturday. TCR, the No.1 seed from th Mountain Athletic 3A/4A Conference, defeated South Caldwell (16-9), the No.2 seed from the NW3A/4A, 3-2 Thursday night in the sectional finals.
Sarah Combs, only a sophomore, paced WHS Thursday night with 19 assists. Rebecca Hayes had seven kills and two blocks; Channing Hagaman had six kills and seven digs; Sarah Petersen had four kills and Ashlyn VanDyke had eight digs.

 

WHS JV FOOTBALL DROPS SEASON FINALE

 

The Watauga High junior varsity football team closed out the season with a 30-20 loss at St. Stephens Thursday night. Justin Greer paced the Pioneers (8-2; 4-2 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) by tossing a touchdown pass to Michael Ebaugh, and catching a TD pass from Austin Northern. Zack Williams scored a TD and he also scored on a two-point conversion run.
