Lenoir-Rhyne (12-1-2) and Montreat (10-4-3) played to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes Wednesday afternoon in a women's soccer match at Cavaliers Field. Montreat got on the board first in the 31st minute of action when Carlie

Merson (Sykesville, Md.) scored off a pass from Chloe McCleary-Small (Asheville, N.C.). The Bears tied the contest at the 37:05 mark of the first half on a goal by freshman forward Garcelle Alequine (Wilmington, Del.), her fifth score of the season. L-R, ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II, held a commanding advantage in shots taken at 51-5 despite the tie. The Bears also remained unbeaten their last 11 matches (9-0-2).
Both goalkeepers, Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Tessa Lukens (Buford, Ga.) and Montreat's Caroline Mellard (Lawrenceville, Ga.), allowed just one goal in 110 minutes of action. Lukens finished with four stops on the day while Mellard was able to hold the tie with 22 saves in the contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne looks to clinch the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship outright when it travels to Anderson, S.C., to face Anderson on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The Bears are also ranked second in this week's NCAA Division II Southeast Regional rankings. The top six squads in each region earn a berth to the playoffs.
Montreat, meanwhile, plays at St. Andrews in Laurinburg, N.C., on Monday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m.
