 Appalachian State University has been projected to finish fourth in the Southern Conference according to the annual conference coaches’ poll released on Wednesday, as senior Brett Boston was selected to the 2012-13 Preseason All-So
Con team. The Mountaineers, last season’s Southern Conference regular season champions, finished 13 points behind projected champion, Chattanooga, who tallied 46 points and four first-place votes. The Mocs finished just above The Citadel with 44 points and matching four first-place votes. Campbell (35) finished third in the poll, ready to begin its second full season as a conference member, as the Apps followed with 33 points. Rounding out the poll was Gardner-Webb (25), VMI (20), SoCon newcomer SIUE (14) and Davidson (7). Highlighting this season’s Preseason All-SoCon Team is Boston who tied with Campbell’s Joey Rizzolino for the top wrestler at 133 pounds. Boston finished the 2011-12 season with a 19-19 overall record and has 43 wins in three seasons. Boston and the rest of the Mountaineers hold their second intrasquad meet of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 30 as they host the Black and Gold meet set for 7 p.m. at Varsity Gym. Appalachian begins its 2012-13 schedule on Sunday, Nov. 4 when the Apps travel to Salem, Va. for the Hokie Open.
