The Watauga Sheriff’s Office reported this morning that the garbage dumped on US 421 in the pre-dawn hours Friday came from a High Country Waste truck, and the company crews returned to the scene to assist DOT and Cove Creek firemen with the clean-up.
Company officials admitted the mistake caused the mess along US 421 north of Boone. The trash dumped in the early morning darkness and fog on the south-bound side of the road for over a half mile, starting near the Quality Plus Gas station in Vilas to near the NC 105 bypass, snarled early Friday morning traffic through Vilas. |
