The Ashe County High men's soccer team is off to a blistering start. Despite an opening day 2-1 loss against Watauga way back on August 13, the Huskies (15-1) have reeled off 15 consecutive wins. That effort has earned the Huskies
a No.4 ranking in the North Carolina Coaches Soccer Coaches Association/Eurosport.com Class 2A Top 15 Poll. The Huskies, who play at West Wilkes Monday night, have been extremely stingy on defense. The Huskies have given up 12 goals this season. They've posted five shutouts, and Forbush is the only team to score a season-high three goals against them this season (a 4-3 win on the road on September 20). The Huskies defeated Starmount 2-1 and Elkin 3-2 last week. Offensively, Huskies have scored 84 goals. They have scored five goals or more in a game eight times, which includes a 10-1 win against North Wilkes on September 10. The Huskies are 9-0 and in first place in the Mountain Valley 1A/2A Conference standings with five league games left on the regular-season schedule. |
