No.19 L-R Women Blanks Brevard, 8-0 PDF Print

The 19th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (9-1, 5-0) exploded for six second-half goals en route to a dominating, 8-0 win over Brevard (1-9-1, 0-5) Saturday evening at the Moretz Sports - Athletic

Complex. Freshman forward Leah Mullins (Kissimmee, Fla.) tallied a hat trick as the Bears won their sixth straight match and 15th consecutive conference regular season contest dating back to 2010.
Mullins now has a team-leading 11 goals on the year while Lenoir-Rhyne held a 43-2 advantage in shots taken in the win.
Freshman defender Brianna Belsky (Egg Harbour Township, N.J.) got the Bears on the board in the 27th minute with a shot from about 20 yards out from the right as she finished off a rebounded free kick.
Mullins made it 2-0 just 27 seconds later after she dribbled past several defenders and finished off a shot in the left corner of the net.
Mullins then opened the scoring just over five minutes after halftime with a goal at the 50:39 mark and the rout was on for the Bears. Freshman midfielder Garcelle Alequine (Wilmington, Del.) assisted on Lenoir-Rhyne's fourth and fifth goals as the Bears registered their second straight shutout.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) played the first half and was credited with the victory while Brevard's Brittany Webster (Stafford, Va.) suffered the loss in goal despite tallying 12 saves on the day.
L-R hits the road to face Mars Hill in a South Atlantic Conference contest on Wednesday in Mars Hill, N.C., beginning at 5:00 p.m. Brevard hosts Converse Monday at 4 p.m.


Lenoir-Rhy​ne Men Cruise By Brevard, 4-1


The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (5-4-2, 2-2-1) pushed its winning streak to four matches with a 4-1 victory over Brevard (1-8-2, 1-4) Saturday night in a South Atlantic Conference contest at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
Four different players scored for the Bears as Lenoir-Rhyne took a 3-0 lead entering the break and never looked back.
Sophomore forward Mario Pinos Garcia (Guayaquil, ECUADOR) opened the scoring in the eighth minute after taking advantage of a misplay by the Brevard goalkeeper on a long throw.
Senior midfielder Oliver Worth (Sheffield, ENGLAND) then made it 2-0 in the 31st minute by finishing off a penalty kick for his second goal of the season.
Freshman forward Tobias Tobrant (Boras, SWEDEN) rounded out the scoring for the Bears before intermission with his team-leading sixth goal of the year at the 31:35 mark of the first half.
The two teams traded goals in the second half and Brevard avoided the shutout thanks to Marcelo Betcer (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) with a free kick into the net in the 72nd minute.
L-R junior Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) picked up the victory in goal after stopping 10 shots on the night while Jack Shaw (Simpsonville, S.C.) suffered the loss despite making six saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne plays Mars Hill on the road in a South Atlantic Conference match on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m. Brevard hosts Carson-Newman on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
