Trash Trail Snarls Vilas Traffic PDF Print

Someone arrived at the dump site with a whole lot less garbage than they loaded—and that snarled early traffic this morning along US 421 north of Boone. Trash was dumped in the early morning darkness and fog on the south-bound side of the road for over a half mile, starting near the Marathon Gas station in Vilas to near the NC 105 bypass. Cove Creek firemen were called out to help DOT crews clear the trash out of the roadway while inbound traffic backed up through Vilas. The garbage was just pushed out of the road into the ditch line awaiting daylight and avoiding the morning rush before it will be collected.  For sure, the garbage will be probed looking for clues as to who dumped—and just left—the trash along the roadway.
