Former Hickory High men's basketball coach Shawn Johnson appeared in Superior Court Wednesday. And Johnson, who was arrested on July 26 and is facing four charges of statutory rape and
one charge of sex offense by a teacher, will likely be released from jail after Judge Lucy Inman reduced his bail from $410,000 to $105,006. If Johnson, 38, violates any of the conditions he can be arrested and his bond would be set again at $410,000, she said. Another court date for Johnson has not been scheduled. Johnson’s attorney Lisa Dubs said after his bond hearing she’s not sure when he could be bonded out of jail. She said the community is coming together to post his bond and that he would return to live with his wife and children. Six additional charges of indecent liberties with a student were added in August and Prosecutor Michael Van Buren said a fifth victim has come forward in the district attorney’s case against Johnson but he hasn’t been charged yet. |
