 The No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (7-1, 4-0) made it four wins in a row with a 3-1 victory over Newberry (4-5-1, 1-3) Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference match. Three different players scored for the Bears,
who won their 14th consecutive league regular season contest dating back to 2010 as well. L-R opened the scoring in the 20th minute when junior forward Ariel Dominguez (Annapolis, Md.) tallied her first goal of the season after tapping the ball into the net after a scramble. The Bears made it 2-0 just over three minutes after intermission when freshman forward Leah Mullins (Kissimmee, Fla.) notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season after volleying in a corner kick. Mullins finished with a goal and an assist to lead Lenoir-Rhyne. Freshman midfielder Emmi Dunn (Reading, Pa.) rounded out the scoring for the Bears with her first goal of the season as well in the 70th minute with a shot from just inside the 18-foot line. Newberry avoided the shutout with a goal by Amber Chase (Aiken, S.C.) with just 1:20 remaining in regulation. Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) picked up the win in goal for the Bears, who held a 21-4 advantage in shots taken on the day. Newberry's goalkeeper, Rebecca Darley (Wolcutt, Conn.), took the loss despite tallying nine saves. Lenoir-Rhyne faces Queens at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex in Hickory, N.C., in a non-conference contest on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Newberry plays at Erskine on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
