• Appalachian State  (2-2, 1-1 SoCon) rebounded from a 52-28 loss to The Citadel on Sept. 15 to dominate Chattanooga, outgaining the Mocs, 401-270, en route to last Saturday’s road triumph.

• Coastal Carolina (2-2, 0-0 Big South) has lost consecutive games at Eastern Kentucky and Toledo after a 2-0 start.

• With the win over UTC, Appalachian avoided losing back-to-back games for only the second time since 2003 and averted its first 0-2 start in conference play since 1972, its first season in the Southern Conference.

• Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina are squaring off for the third time. The Mountaineers pounded CCU, 30-3, in 2005 and 45-28 in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Division I Football Championship. Both previous Appalachian-Coastal matchups were played at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

• Appalachian State is 41-15-2 all-time versus current members of the Big South Conference and has won 15-straight games over current Big South members with its last loss coming at the hands of Liberty in 1997 (25-19).

• Offense and, in particular, the passing game will be the focal point of Saturday’s matchup. Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina both rank among the nation’s top 40 in total offense (App: 30th - 413.5 ypg; CCU: 36th - 403.0 ypg) and are in the top 30 nationally in passing (App: 28th - 248.0 ypg; CCU: 15th - 288.8 ypg).

• Last Saturday, Appalachian quarterback Jamal Jackson became the 13th 3,000-yard passer in school history. With only 11 starts under his belt, the junior already has 3,137 career passing yards, good for 12th in school history. Jackson needs just 34 yards to move past Todd Payton (1984-87) into 11th on Appalachian’s all-time passing yardage list.

• With two 100-yard performances in two games this season, Appalachian wide receiver Sean Price is already the first freshman in Mountaineer history with multiple 100-yard receiving games.

• The Chanticleers are led by senior quarterback Aramis Hillary, the brother of former Mountaineer wide receiver and return specialist CoCo Hillary (2007-10).

• The Mountaineers have won 20 of their last 21 regular-season non-conference games at Kidd Brewer Stadium and 62 of their last 68 home games overall. The Sept. 15 loss to The Citadel snapped the Apps’ 18-game regular-season winning streak at The Rock.

• Four 2012 Southern Conference championship teams will be recognized with on-field ceremonies during Saturday's game. Appalachian's SoCon-championship women's indoor track and field and men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will be honored at the end of the first quarter and Appalachian baseball will be recognized for winning its first SoCon crown since 1986 at halftime.
