After having several long winning streaks snapped with a 52-28 loss to The Citadel in its Southern Conference opener, No. 17/18 Appalachian State University looks to rebound on Saturday when it travels to Chattanooga for another stern SoCon test. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

NOTING SATURDAY'S MATCHUP
• Appalachian State (1-2, 0-1 SoCon) had an 18-game regular-season home winning streak, an 18-game winning streak in Southern Conference home games, an 18-game winning streak in SoCon openers played at home, an eight-game winning streak versus The Citadel and a nine-game home winning streak against the Bulldogs all snapped in last Saturday’s setback.

• Appalachian is 22-1 in its last 23 games that immediately followed a same-season loss. Since the third week of the 2003 season, the Mountaineers have only lost consecutive games in the same season once — setbacks at East Carolina (29-24) and versus McNeese State (40-35) to open the 2009 campaign.

• Appalachian has not lost consecutive Southern Conference games since dropping back-to-back decisions to Georgia Southern (36-20) and Wofford (26-19) on Oct. 19 and 26, 2002.

• Appalachian is 1-2 for the third time in five seasons. The last two times that the Mountaineers lost two of their first three games (2008 and 2009), they went on to win the Southern Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Division I Football Championship quarterfinals in 2008 and the national semifinals in 2009.

• Appalachian has not been 1-3 since 2003. Only three times in 23 previous seasons under head coach Jerry Moore have the Mountaineers been below .500 after four games (1992, 1993 and 2003).

• Appalachian has not been 0-2 in Southern Conference play since 1972, its first year in the league when it finished 0-3-1 in conference play.

• Appalachian has won seven-straight and 24 of its last 27 games versus Chattanooga.

• Despite the Mountaineers’ overall dominance in the series, the last two meetings between Appalachian and Chattanooga have been nailbiters. In their last visit to UTC, the Apps overcame a 21-point fourth-quarter deficit to rally for a 42-41 victory and last year in Boone, the Mountaineers scored two defensive touchdowns in the final 15 minutes to claim a 14-12 triumph.

• Appalachian has won six-straight games played at Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium, including victories in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 NCAA Division I Football national championship games.
