Ryder Jones is headed to Stanford University. The senior, who transferred to Watauga High from Stillwater (Okla.) High after his father, Billy Jones, was named the new baseball coach at Appalachian State University, has announced he
will attend Stanford University next season. Stanford, a Division I school in Palto-Alto, CA., is a member of the Pacific 12 Conference. "I got accepted at Stanford," Jones said with a sigh of relief, "I plan on visiting the campus when they play their last home football game (against Oregon State on November 11). I'm very pleased to be going there. I have relatives that live in San Francisco, so I won't be too far away from family." Jones, who made his verbal commitment in late July, is ranked among the top 50 high school players in the nation by PerfectGame.org. He was also one of 40 players to tryout for the Team USA 18-and-under team. Jones belted 11 homers while batting .447 with 41 RBIs in 2012. On the mound, he was 3-2 with 58 strikeouts in 44 innings as a junior at Stillwater. He led the Pioneers to the Class 6A state tournament. It's first trip to states since 2005.
