Lenoir-Rhyne University's Caitlin Scruggs has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Player Of The Week, league officials announced this afternoon. Scruggs, a senior goalkeeper from Torrance, Calif., picked up a

shutout victory last Saturday in Lenoir-Rhyne's 4-0 win over Wingate in the conference opener at home. Scruggs stopped nine Bulldog shots on the day for her second shutout on the season.
Scruggs, a 2010 First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference and All-Southeast Region honoree, currently has a 0.61 goals-against average with 32 saves while starting all five matches this year. Scruggs wins the award for the second time in her career and is the second player to earn the accolade this year for the Bears. Freshman forward Leah Mullins (Kissimmee, Fla.) won the award on September 5.
Lenoir-Rhyne (4-1, 1-0) returns to action on Wednesday when the Bears host Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference contest beginning at 5:00 p.m., at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex. The Bears also ranked fourth in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Southeast Regional Rankings. NSCAA is the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
