ASU Men's Soccer Falls To Saint Mary's PDF Print

Appalachian State University men’s soccer dropped its second match of the season, as the Mountaineers could not keep up with Saint Mary’s, falling 2-0 Sunday afternoon on the final day of the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Classic at the

UNCW Soccer Field. With the loss, the Apps fall to 4-2-1 on the season, as Saint Mary moves to 3-1-2.
The Gaels started quickly in the opening half, striking first in the 21st minute. SMC’s Justin Howard fired a seven-yard shot past Appalachian goalkeeper Danny Free to grab the lead. Tariq Adam and Michael Semenza were credited with the assist on the goal. After the goal, App State fired two shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net and went into halftime down, 1-0. The Apps outshot the Gaels in the first half 5-2.
Saint Mary’s got an insurance goal when the Mountaineers gave up an own goal in the 81st minute. The Gaels’ defense closed out the match, not giving the Apps many opportunities after the final goal. Free finished the match with two saves, both stops coming in the second half. Sophomore Stanley Broaden and freshman Ewahia Amhanesi both record shots on goal.
The Mountaineers will continue their road trip as they head to Wake Forest on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
