A week after one of the most exciting home-opening victories in Appalachian State football history, the eighth-ranked Mountaineers open Southern Conference play with a huge test versus No. 21

The Citadel on Saturday afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on the 50th anniversary of the first game ever played at The Rock.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on the Appalachian IMG Sports Network (locally on AM 1450. WATA). Live coverage begins at 1:30 p.m. with Pigskin Prelude.

GoASU TV
Saturday's game will be the first of at least four and possibly as many as six Appalachian football games that can be viewed live on GoASU TV this season.

NOTING SATURDAY'S MATCHUP
• Appalachian State (1-1, 0-0 SoCon; ranked No. 8 in The Sports Network's NCAA Division I FCS media poll and No. 7 in the American Football Coaches Association) and The Citadel (2-0, 1-0 SoCon; ranked No. 21 by The Sports Network, No. 23 by AFCA) both claimed impressive and thrilling wins last Saturday. Appalachian topped national powerhouse Montana, 35-27, and The Citadel downed preseason SoCon favorite and third-ranked Georgia Southern, 23-21.

• Appalachian has won eight-straight and 17 of the last 18 games in its series with The Citadel.

• The Mountaineers have won nine-straight over the Bulldogs at home, with The Citadel’s last win at Kidd Brewer Stadium coming in 1992. Appalachian’s nine-consecutive home wins in the series have come by an average score of 41-17.

• Appalachian State is 32-8 all-time and 19-4 under head coach Jerry Moore in Southern Conference openers.

• The Apps are 22-2 all-time when playing their SoCon opener at home. It has been 30 years since Appalachian lost a SoCon opener at home, dating back to a loss to Furman in 1982.

• The Citadel has been Appalachian’s most common conference-opening opponent. The Mountaineers are facing the Bulldogs in the SoCon opener for the 17th time but the first time since 2008. The Apps are 13-3 when facing The Citadel in their SoCon opener.

• Appalachian is looking to extend its regular-season winning streak at Kidd Brewer Stadium to 19 games. The Mountaineers have not lost at home in the regular-season since a 40-35 defeat to McNeese State in the 2009 home opener.

• Saturday marks the 50th anniversary of the first game ever played at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Appalachian opened what was then known as Conrad Stadium on Sept. 15, 1962 with a 6-3 loss to Emory & Henry.

• Quarterback Jamal Jackson continued to add to the most impressive start to a career by a signal-caller in school history last week with 260 passing yards and 325 yards of total offense in the win over Montana. Jackson has thrown for at least 200 yards and totaled no fewer than 250 yards of total offense in each of his nine career starts, setting school records for most consecutive 200-yard passing games, most consecutive 200-yard passing games to begin a career as a starter, most consecutive games with 250 yards of total offense and most consecutive games with 250 yards of total offense to begin a career as a starter.
