Appalachian State University’s Sarah Anderson and Caroline Phillips earned NorPac East Player of the Week honors for their play in last week’s matches, the league announced Monday. The duo was instrumental in helping the Mountaineers pick

up wins over St. Louis and Penn in neutral site matches. Anderson was named Defensive Player of the Week after she picked up her first two collegiate wins last week and put up an impressive .789 save percentage. She ended the week with 15 saves in two matches, including a career high ten saves against Saint Louis.
Anderson made a key save against previously unbeaten Penn in the Mountaineers thrilling, 3-2 victory. Phillips garnered co-Rookie of the Week honors for her standout performance in the Apps’ first win of the 2012 season, where she notched her first collegiate points. She would be the first to light up the scoreboard against Saint Louis as she found the back of the net early in the first half.
Phillips would have a hand in the final two goals that Appalachian would score as she fed passes to both Casey Lammando and Dana Wetmore. Phillips shares the weekly honor with freshman Natalie Barr of Liberty. Appalachian will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 14 when it travels to Wake Forest to take on the Demon Deacons in a night match. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
